Critique on Why is the sea salty

Everyone who has been to the beach knows that seawater is salty. Everyone also knows that fresh water in rain, rivers, and even ice is not salty. Why are some of Earth's waters salty and others are not? There are two clues that give us the answer. First, "fresh" water is not entirely free of dissolved salt. Even rainwater has traces of substances dissolved in it that were picked up during passage through the atmosphere. Much of this material that "washes out" of the atmosphere today is pollution, but there are also natural substances present.

As rainwater passes through soil and percolates through rocks, it dissolves some of the minerals, a process called weathering. This is the water we drink, and of course, we cannot taste the salt because its concentration is too low. Eventually, this water with its small load of dissolved minerals or salts reaches a stream and flows into lakes and the ocean. The annual addition of dissolved salts by rivers is only a tiny fraction of the total salt in the ocean. The dissolved salts carried by all the world's rivers would equal the salt int he ocean in about 200 to 300 million years.

A second clue to how the sea became salty is the presence salt lakes such as the Great Salt Lake and the Dead Sea. Both are about 10 times saltier than seawater. Why are these lakes salty while most of the world's lakes are not? Lakes are temporary storage areas for water. Rivers and streams bring water to the lakes, and other rivers carry water out of lakes. Thus, lakes are really only wide depressions in a river channel that have filled water. Water flows in one end and out the other.

Critique on Bernardo Carpio

my impresion on the legend is streght

lalaki.
According to one version of the tale, Bernardo Carpio was a son of Infante Jimena and Don Sancho Diaz of Cerdenia. Infante was cloistered by her brother King Alfonso, who at that time was very powerful, because of her forbidden love with Don Sancho Diaz. Don Sanchio Diaz then was incarcerated, his eyes are to be plucked out. Then Bernardo was then cared by Don Rubio, by whosedesigns the affair of the hapless love is discovered by the King.
The Spanish hired a local engkantado (shaman) and conspired to trap him through supernatural means. Calling for a parley, they lured him towards a cave in the mountains of Montalban. The lad fell for the trap. The engkantado used his agimat (talisman) and Bernardo Carpio was caught between two boulders which the shaman had caused to grind each other. The legend says he was not killed, but was trapped between these two boulders, unable to escape because the talisman’s power was as great as his own strength.
When Carpio’s co-conspirators arrived at the cave to rescue him, they were blocked from the cave by a series of cave ins that killed several of the men.
People soon surmised that whenever an earthquake happens, it is caused by Bernardo Carpio trying to free himself from the mountain.

Legends (Alamat in Filipino) is very important in preserving the history and culture of one’s land. It has a vital role in transferring the knowledge and important in the development of a community. It also has the capacity to transform person’s paradigm; and mold their values, attitude, and behavior that greatly affects human’s life as well as the community.

Critique on The Cycle of the Sun and the Moon

The legend The Cycle of the Sun and the Moon shows the importance of obedience. The Sun touched and burned his children, disobeying his wife's clear order. When the Moon came back from getting water from the river and found out what had happened, she and her spouse got into a fight. The Sun yelled and threw stuff at the Moon; the Moon fled the house as her husband unleashed his anger at the forest; the Sun came back to an empty house and deeply regretted yelling at his wife. The Sun then ended up chasing his fleeing wife, looking for a way to get back her affection. And that is how the cycle of the sun and the moon began. The root of all of this was, letting the love for his children overwhelm him, the Sun's lack of obedience. If he just followed his wife's orders then his childrens would not have been burned and the fight with the Moon would never have happened.

The positive point of this legend is its lesson. We must not fall into temptation and we must do what is right, even if we have to sacrifice something that is very important to us.
